FSSAI Registration in Karnataka is not a single application category for every food business. The correct route depends on the actual Kind of Business (KOB), activity, capacity, premises and category-specific conditions. Basic Registration, State Licence or Central Licence?

From 1 April 2026, the general turnover bands for new applications changed. Use the following as a starting point, then check the FoSCoS KOB eligibility conditions; special activity or capacity criteria can change the result.

Why turnover alone is not enough

Central-only categories can apply to activities such as food import, e-commerce, specified exporters/EOUs, non-specified foods, Ayurveda Aahara, radiation processing and certain premises or organisations, including the relevant airport, seaport, railway or Central-government categories. Capacity and activity rules must also be checked for the selected KOB.

An existing certificate does not automatically change category because the new turnover bands apply. Check the applicable migration or modification route before changing how the business operates or represents its registration status.

A street-food vendor registered under the Street Vendors Act, 2014 may qualify for deemed FSSAI registration under the 2026 framework. Do not assume all vendors are exempt without confirming the qualifying registration.

Documents for your food-business category

FoSCoS generates requirements based on the chosen KOB. There is no single universal document bundle for every food-business operator.

• Applicant identity and photograph, business/premises details and applicable possession evidence.
• Entity constitution and authorisation records where the applicant is a firm or company.
• For licence applications: the relevant Form B and activity-specific supporting records.
• Layout, machinery, product categories and production/capacity details where applicable.
• Food-safety management documents, water-test reports, technical-person details, recall plans or NOCs where the KOB requires them.
• For an existing business: current certificate and records supporting the proposed change.

FoSCoS application process in Karnataka

The online workflow must describe the business accurately. Karnataka and Bangalore businesses use the applicable FSSAI/FoSCoS framework; Bangalore does not have a separate FSSAI licence category.

1. Review activities, premises, capacity, turnover and the exact Kind of Business.
2. Select Karnataka and the relevant location in FoSCoS, then confirm eligibility.
3. Prepare the category-specific document list and check the legal name and address.
4. Complete the application, upload records and pay the portal’s applicable amount.
5. Track the application and respond to queries or inspection requirements.
6. Check and display the issued certificate and follow its conditions.

Fees, validity and processing expectations

Government fees vary by category and KOB. The fee matrix has commonly shown ₹100 for Registration, ₹2,000–₹5,000 for State Licence categories and ₹7,500 for Central Licence. Confirm the current payable amount and payment period in FoSCoS; do not infer a recurring renewal obligation from a legacy fee-table label.

The 2026 framework provides perpetual validity unless the registration or licence is suspended, cancelled or surrendered. This does not waive applicable fees, food-safety duties, modification requirements or other licence conditions. Do not rely on the former routine one-to-five-year renewal model.

Eligible Registration cases may use the instant-registration route without pre-inspection. That is not a promise of instant approval for every State or Central Licence. Scrutiny, risk-based inspection or compliance audit may apply. Kickstart’s professional fee is separate from the government payment.
